Rollover Car Accidents in Iowa for February 17, 2011
Then with Two treated, released after accident on Avenue, we have two folks from Cedar Falls we have a one-car accident on Highway 18 with the driver losing control, entering the median area and rolling the van; a 1999 Ford Econoline van. If anyone could design a car that wouldn’t roll over we could save a lot of lives. The passenger and driver are Kully Olson, 21 from Osage and one Russel Fredericksen, 27 from Cedar Falls. Both were taken to Mercy in Mason City. In the first article I’ve already covered the Sorenson accident so I won’t do it again.Category: Keyword Search: truck
What’s a MoJo?
This first story is about a MoJo. A MoJo is a mobile journalist who covers the Cedar Rapids area of Iowa. The Internet has redefined most everything so why not journalism too? A MoJo can take photos, write stories and then sell content via a web links etc. This journalist is Jeff Raasch from SourceMedia Group News. That’s a great idea Jeff – I like that a MoJo. I’d suggest Jeff carry workers’ compensation insurance and higher limits of auto coverages including uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage. Taking this one step further this could be a money maker for students in college or at one of our state Universities. Give it some thought.Category: Keyword Search: truck
In some accidents, there is no one to exchange information
Okay what do we have here today; a redirect notice to this link. A 911 recording by the Sioux County Sheriff’s office involving the mother whose truck rolled over. It’s pretty dramatic in that a four-year-old walked away from the accident to a nearby farm house to get help. The mother was frantic because she was unable to hear her daughter.Category: Keyword Search: truck

Iowa State Patrol Injury Reports - Interstate Highway - for Saturday, February 12, 2011
How bad has it been on Iowa’s interstate highway system? Below I’ve separated the I-235, I-35, I-80, I-380 and I-29. This should assist injured drivers and passengers looking for their report. The crash reports from previous weeks are at the links way down at the bottom. If you follow this link to the Lombardi Law Firm category Interstate 35, I-80, I-235, I-380 Collisions/Accidents you can find most Iowa State Patrol crash reports linked and some, but not all, are analyzed. Look along the left column under The Verdict to see if the date of your accident is shown; if it is simply click on the linked title that should include a date. There are two for every Saturday. One is for fatality reports and the other for injury crash reports. If you or an interested person are in a collision and you would like the crash analyzed you’ll need to contact Attorney Lombardi. This may or may not result in an attorney-client relationship and simply asking for a review does not in and of itself create such a relationship. If you ask and Mr. Lombardi thinks you have a case he will say so and provide an agreement for representation that then creates an attorney-client relationship. The bottom line is that Mr. Lombardi has to agree to take you on as a client; the first step of course is asking him. What causes TBI or a head injury?
In this crash we have two people being hospitalized after a car, truck and semi-truck accident on Highway 151 in Fairfax. This appears to be the same collision with the woman from Marion, Iowa. (Joy Talley, 25) She suffered what is reported as a serious head-injury or TBI. The accident sequence is this poor woman is stopped and waiting for traffic to clear so she can turn left. A semi-truck driver probably not paying attention (cell phone?) rear ends her, pushing her car into the path of the oncoming pickup truck. All were injured. See the article and the local Sheriff’s report for more details. I see no fault on the part of Talley.Category: Keyword Search: truck
What is negligence?

Further the report has a passenger, Brian Tucker, being ejected from the truck and then being injured and flown by air ambulance to Creighton University Medical Center. They come off the ISP website but you are free to contact me if you want further assistance. I can be reached by email at sdlombardi@aol.com or by phone 515-222-1110. From quickly scanning the summaries there are at least 127 personal injury accidents on the Iowa interstate highways in this batch of reported accidents. They include I-235, I-35, I-80, and I-29. For some reason I-380 has no pi accidents this time around. The Iowa highways include 151, 218, 52, 44, 63, 69, 169, 20, 17 and 52. There’s a lot of ice covered roads for driver’s to evaluate and to contend with but frankly it’s mostly about speed and being in too much of a hurry. The report links follow and if you need help understanding what happened or what to do next contact Steve Lombardi for legal assistance.Category: Keyword Search: truck

Ice won't excuse the negligence of the driver crossing the center line
Ice isn’t an excuse for losing control and crossing the center line. Ice is a condition that occurs every year in Iowa. We expect the cold, we know it will snow and we also know that snow on warmer days will melt then turn to ice at night. So when someone points to the ice as if it were an excuse for a rollover that injured their passengers I have to just listen. ...then crossed the center line and hit a van driven by a 54-year-old man, Van Meeteren of Sioux Center.Category: Keyword Search: truck
Losing control and crossing the center line of a highway
Losing control and crossing the center line of a highway can be a reason why passengers collect from at-fault drivers in Iowa. In this Wisconsin case the passenger was killed during a collision between a car and a semi-truck. These were college students from that state. This accident can serve as a reminder to Iowa’s college students to drive extra careful and to not drive when weather conditions are so dangerous that a loss of control is probable. Let’s be careful out there.Category: Keyword Search: truck
Did ethanol plant vapor discharge obstruct a driver’s vision causing a dangerous condition?
Frankly I’m not sure without knowing more about the accident sequence and whether the driver should not have pulled out from safety. It’s a difficult call without seeing and examining the physical evidence and knowing something more about the location. It is an interesting case though.Category: Keyword Search: truck
Iowa Teen Seriously Injured In I-35 Rollover Collision in Minnesota
In this instance an 18-year-old, Alexander Joy was driving north on I-35, with passengers in the SUV when it lost control. Jenna Albert, his passenger was in critical condition. Young folks being where they are in life don’t carry a lot of insurance and those doctors just don’t seem to want to do the work for free. So be it as it may they will need a personal injury lawyer. Semi-truck crash can a cause serious head injury
Joy Talley suffered a head injury after the car she was driving was rear ended by a semi-truck last Thursday. That crash sent her to the hospitals in Iowa City. According to the KCRG news item she was waiting to turn left of center when the semi-truck crashed into the rear of her vehicle. It’s reported the driver of the semi drove his truck into the rear of Tally’s vehicle and then pushed it into the path of a pickup truck driven by Jeff Levsen of Marion; Levsen was also injured and taken to the hospital. Car falls off overpass onto northbound I-35 in Minnesota
Here is a news item from Cloquet, Minnesota involving I-35. Typically we assume we are safe driving at highway speeds and also that the design of the road surface, the bridge railings and overpass structure will protect us from a fall. But in this case the woman plunged over the side rail of an overpass after skidding and running up the snow bank, which by the way should have been plowed out of there. I'm guessing that maintenance issues will become a more serious problem as state budgets get worse. So be aware of what can happen and how accidents start; that way you can slow down and stay alive. Enjoy the article. Woman whose car fell off Cloquet bridge 'lucky to have survived' Duluth News Tribune The car landed where northbound I-35 and Minnesota Highway 33 merge. “The best we could tell is that it landed on its roof,” Vereecken said. ... Another rollover death MVA near Centerville.
A 2006 Toyota Scion rolled over on Highway 5 at St. Joseph Drive north of Centerville and killed a 56-year-old woman. She’s listed as Mary English from Le Grand, Iowa. It appears she was the only person in the car. What interested me about rollover types of accidents, are the passengers inside. Often time’s passengers have a claim against the driver and don’t even know it because they don’t understand their rights.Category: Keyword Search: truck
