Pit Bull Attacks 62-year-old Woman from Newton

When a pit bull attacks serious injury or death is certainly possible. In this dog attack the female pedestrian was jogging in the neighborhood. The dog owner owned three dogs and all three were put to sleep. Luckily a witness happened by and helped the female runner before it more damage. According to reports she was injured. Afterwards the animal control officer took possession of all three dogs and put them down. The witness is lucky he didn't have a heart attack.

Age of Victim: 62-years-old

Dog owner reported to be Tony and Beth Audas

Dog's Name: Rufus

Breed: Pit Bull

Newton Police Department, Officer Lt. Pat Richardson

Witness to Attack: John Jennings

Location: S4th Ave. West and West 4^th Street South, Newton, Iowa.

Outcome: That dog and three others (all pit bulls) were euthanized.

Questions to be answered:

Did the dog's owners carry liability insurance?

Why wasn't the dog chained or in some other way restrained?

Pit bulls and vicious dog breeds causing personal injury in Iowa

Is it time to finally outlaw pit bulls? On September 19^th Joyce Haynes heard a child screaming and ran outside to see a pit bull charging a child. When she attempted to intervene the dog turned on her going after her legs biting her calves and taking a sizeable piece of flesh.

A second neighbor came to her rescue using a bike to shield himself from the dog while getting it away from Miss Haynes. She will have permanent scars from the attack both physically and I will assume mentally as well. The real question is where was the owner? In today’s day in age with all the education and information on the dangers of dogs such as pit bulls how could this possibly happen? The owner of the dog will no doubt be getting a hefty bill from the hospital but will there bill criminal charges? What would have happened if the dog had gotten ahold of the child and killed it? More needs to be done to protect every day citizens from out of control dog owners with egos that say owning a vicious dog is somehow a good idea. The pit bull owners and the Taser people have one thing in common; they see the U.S. Constitution as a document protecting only them.

Iowa Linn County Sheriff’s Explosives Sniffing Dog Bites Infant

The Linn County Sheriff’s Department owns a dog trained to smell out explosives. The police dog is a 4-year-old Belgian Malinois. After playing fetch in the yard of Deputy Ireland took the dog inside his home where the dog bit Ellie Ireland who is 13 months old. The injured was severe enough to have required airlifting to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. The incident took place on January 23, 2009 at around 8:15 p.m., the child was not released from the hospital until Sunday, January 25, 2009.

This type of injury claim might be covered by Linn County's liability insurance policy or Deputy Ireland's homeowner's insurance policy. The question remains to be answered if the citizens of Linn County should be responsible for paying the child's hospital bills and other damages or if the individual officer should. It all depends on county policy and whether the dog should have been there or if Ireland was acting within the scope of his employment.
